NSER Rotary Interact had a very successful fall a part of the 2016-2017 fundraising campaign, which has a goal of building a $10 000 school!
Through 5 fundraisers, over $1650 have been raised so far. A busy October saw members organize a 50/50, BBQ, Bake Sale, and a canteen during a soccer tournament. Just prior to Christmas, a Holiday Variety Show and Dessert Theatre was held, which was Rotary’s most profitable fundraiser in almost 3 years!
The annual Trick or Eat fundraiser on Halloween was an overwhelming success. Approximately 2200 items were collected by 10 groups which equates to approximately 30 students during the evening on Halloween. For the first time ever, a class competition was also incorporated, which brought in an additional 400 items. In total, 2595 items were collected, up approximately 150 items from 2015. This also makes Trick or Eat 2016 the 2nd most successful Trick or Eat ever at NSER. As in 2015, the items were split up and divided between the Metepenagiag Community Food Bank, and the Miramichi Food Bank!
At the end of November, members were granted the privilege of attending We Day Atlantic Canada for the fourth time! Our very own Rotary interact president, Denver Matchett, won an award called Sovereigns Medal for Volunteers presented by Craig Kielburger. Tricky weather added stress, but the trip was an overall success, with 21 students attending. We Day was highlighted by a surprise appearance by Gord Downie!
Members will once again be working hard in 2017, hoping to make this year the biggest and best yet for NSER Rotary Interact!
